Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced Kyiv's offer to Moscow to hold a new round of talks in the coming days to discuss establishing a ceasefire. He said this in an address to citizens published on Telegram on the evening of July 19.
According to Zelensky, Secretary of the National Security Council of Ukraine Rustem Umerov proposed that the Russian side meet during the week beginning July 21. The main topics for discussion, in addition to the ceasefire regime, will be the next prisoner exchange and the return to Ukraine of Ukrainian children illegally taken to Russia.
The Ukrainian President stressed the need to speed up the negotiation process and called on Moscow to stop “hiding from decisions.” However, the specific location and date of the possible meeting have not yet been specified.
The last round of negotiations between the Russian and Ukrainian delegations took place on June 2 in Istanbul, and before that on May 16. Despite the stated plans of the parties, no specific agreements have been reached since then, and military actions in eastern Ukraine continue.
