The State Institution "City Center for Emergency Medical Care" successfully performed the first laparoscopic gastric resection in Tajikistan, performing a Roux-en-Y gastrojejunostomy on a patient with a duodenal ulcer. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Republic of Tajikistan.
According to Rahmonzoda Kurbonali Rahmon, head of the center's surgical department and candidate of medical sciences, the patient was a 59-year-old resident of Dushanbe who had suffered from a duodenal ulcer for about 20 years.
According to him, the disease led to a narrowing of the passage from the stomach to the duodenum. As a result, food was retained in the stomach and could not pass into the duodenum, causing serious digestive problems.
In addition, in the last few months the patient's condition was accompanied by constant vomiting and a general deterioration in health.

After hospitalization and examination, doctors confirmed the diagnosis: a duodenal bulb ulcer with decompensated pyloric stenosis. Specialists concluded that surgical gastrectomy was necessary to correct the problem.
As a result, for the first time in the Republic of Tajikistan, a patient successfully underwent surgery to resect two-thirds of the stomach with the creation of a gastroenteroanastomosis using the Roux-en-Y method using a laparoscopic approach.
As Rahmonzoda Kurbonali Rahmon noted, similar surgical procedures in the country, including at the Dushanbe City Emergency Medical Center, were previously performed using the traditional open technique with a wide tissue incision. This surgery was the first in Tajikistan to be performed laparoscopically using this technology.
The operation was successful. The patient was discharged home eight days after surgery.
The Ministry of Health noted that this achievement confirms the country's availability of modern capabilities for diagnosing and treating patients using advanced medical technologies.
