Air raid sirens sounded in several areas of Israel after missiles were launched from Iran, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Spokesperson's Office reported.
The statement noted that the Israeli Air Force is carrying out missile interception missions and carrying out strikes where necessary.
In light of these developments, Iran's Chief of Staff, Hazrat Khatam al-Anbiya, quoted by the ISNA news agency, stated that Israel must cease attacks on southern Lebanon and the Dahiya district outside Beirut. Otherwise, he said, Tehran will launch "more powerful and remorseful strikes."
The headquarters also recalled that it had previously warned of the possibility of strikes on targets in the occupied territories in the event of attacks on the Dahiya district of Beirut.
Israel later reported retaliatory strikes on Iranian territory following the missile attack. According to the IDF Spokesperson's Office, the Israeli Air Force attacked military targets belonging to the Iranian regime in the western and central parts of the country.
The Israeli army added that details of the operation will be released later.
