A ceremony was held in the city of Kulyab in the Khatlon region to hand over the ashes of Red Army brigade commander Nikolai Tomin to representatives of the Russian Federation. The city's executive authority reported this.
Servicemen from the Tajik National Guard handed over a capsule containing soil from Tomin's grave to the deputy head of the administration of the city of Kurtamysh in the Kurgan region of Russia, the birthplace of the Soviet commander.
As the organizers noted, the ceremony was held as a sign of respect for the memory of Nikolai Tomin and became a symbol of friendship between Tajikistan and Russia.
According to the decision of the Kulob authorities, Nikolai Tomin was buried in the city, and a memorial plaque with his name and the dates of his life was erected at his gravesite. In 2022, a bust of the Red Army commander was also unveiled in Kulob's Victory Park.
During the event, participants recalled that Tomin's house-museum is located in Russia's Kurgan region and is considered a landmark in the city of Kurtamysh and a symbol of courage and heroism. The donated ashes will be housed in the museum in memory of the commander.
Nikolai Tomin was born on December 4, 1886, in the village of Kocherdyk in the Orenburg Governorate, now part of Russia's Kurgan Oblast. He was awarded two Orders of the Red Banner, as well as other state awards.
