Deputy Prime Minister of Tajikistan Sulaimon Ziyozoda visited the Yavan district, where he learned about the activities of farms and the development of agricultural crops.
According to the executive body of the state authority of the Yavan district, during the trip, attention was paid to growing cotton under film using modern agricultural methods.
According to local authorities, cotton is grown using this method on an area of 210 hectares. Officials noted that the film-covered cultivation method helps conserve soil moisture, improve plant growth, and increase yields.
Sulaimon Ziyozoda emphasized that the Tajik government places special emphasis on developing agriculture as a key sector of the national economy. He stated that the country is taking steps to introduce innovative technologies and improve the efficient use of land resources.
During the visit, it was noted that the introduction of modern methods of growing agricultural crops in the face of climate change and water shortages is considered one of the most effective ways to increase productivity in the agricultural sector.
Responsible officials were given instructions to expand the practice of growing cotton under film, comply with agricultural standards, and rationally use agricultural land.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture of Tajikistan, cotton sowing using film cultivation is planned for 40,000 hectares in 2026.
Growing cotton under plastic film is considered a modern agricultural technique and is particularly effective in hot and dry regions. This method involves sown seeds under plastic film, creating favorable conditions for germination and plant development.
Cotton farming remains one of the strategically important agricultural sectors in Tajikistan. Cotton is grown primarily for its fiber, but is also used to produce seeds, oil, feed, and other products.
According to industry data, cotton grown in Tajikistan produces a fiber yield of 34–35 percent. The country also cultivates varieties with a fiber yield of 39–40 percent.
The article emphasizes that Tajikistan has unique soil and climate conditions for cotton cultivation, and the introduction of innovative sowing methods, including growing under film and drip irrigation, is seen as an important way to increase yields, adapt to climate change, and reduce production costs.
