Tajikistan's Minister of Transport Azim Ibrokhim met with Kazakhstan's Minister of Transport Nurlan Sauranbayev at the 18th meeting of the TRACECA Intergovernmental Commission, according to the press service of the Tajikistan Ministry of Transport.
The parties discussed the further development of bilateral cooperation in the transport sector, including issues of road and rail transport, as well as the development of international transport corridors.
Azim Ibrohim noted that Tajikistan attaches particular importance to cooperation with Kazakhstan, considering it one of the key partners in the region.
According to Tajik data, the volume of road freight traffic between the two countries increased in the first four months of 2026. Total traffic increased by 5.8%, and the number of vehicles increased by 17.9% compared to the same period last year.
The ministers also noted the positive dynamics of rail transport and transit through Kazakhstan. In 2025, rail freight volumes exceeded 5.6 million tonnes, more than 621,000 tonnes higher than in 2024.
Following the meeting, the parties concluded that it is necessary to continue joint work on developing international transport corridors, simplifying transit procedures, digitalizing transportation, and increasing the capacity of transport infrastructure between the two countries.
