A formal welcoming ceremony for US President Donald Trump took place in the square outside the Great Hall of the People in central Beijing. The American dignitary's motorcade arrived at the east entrance, where Chinese President Xi Jinping awaited him. The leaders shook hands and then greeted members of the two delegations. The People's Liberation Army Military Band played the national anthems of both countries, followed by a 21-gun salute. Trump, accompanied by Xi Jinping, then inspected the People's Liberation Army Honor Guard. The guard, comprised of service members from the Army, Navy, and Air Force, symbolized military unity. Children also participated in the ceremony, waving bouquets of flowers and the national flags of both countries as they greeted Trump. The heads of state then watched the honor guard march past. The entire official welcoming ceremony lasted about 20 minutes, after which Xi Jinping and Donald Trump proceeded to the Great Hall of the People for talks. As a reminder, this is Trump's first visit to China since 2017. The American leader arrived in Beijing the day before; his state visit will last three days.
