Since early May, several accidents involving water-related deaths, including children, have been reported in Tajikistan. The Government's Committee for Emergency Situations and Civil Defense has called on residents to strictly observe safety precautions near bodies of water and not leave minors unattended.
According to the Emergency Situations Committee, a tragic accident involving a child born in 2024 occurred in the city of Levakant on May 5. The agency reports that the child, left unattended, fell into a ditch behind a residential building and died.
That same day, another accident occurred in the Sino district of Dushanbe. A minor born in 2010 drowned while swimming in the Great Gissar Canal near Lake Javonon. Rescuers recovered the body and handed it over to law enforcement.
Additionally, a man born in 1975 died in the city of Gissar. According to the Emergency Situations Committee, he was intoxicated, fell into a canal, and drowned.
The department also announced the completion of the search for a young man born in 2003 who had previously jumped from a bridge into the Kafarnigan River in the city of Vahdat. His body was found during the search and handed over to his relatives.
The Committee for Emergency Situations and Civil Defense urged citizens to observe safety regulations around bodies of water, avoid swimming in undesignated and dangerous areas, and avoid entering water while intoxicated.
Separately, the Emergency Situations Committee asked parents to increase supervision of their children, especially near canals, rivers, irrigation ditches, and other bodies of water.
