China is calling on the IAEA to strengthen oversight of Japan's nuclear activities. Beijing has published a working paper warning of Tokyo's escalating nuclear rhetoric. The reason for this is the Japanese prime minister's refusal at the end of 2025 to reaffirm the country's three non-violent principles, as well as calls by a high-ranking Tokyo official for the acquisition of nuclear weapons.
The Chinese document emphasizes that such steps violate Japan's obligations under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. Beijing calls on all states party to the treaty to consider Japan's nuclear policy a serious issue.
