Pakistan has opened six land corridors for the transit of Iranian cargo, allowing shipments to bypass the Strait of Hormuz, the country's Ministry of Commerce announced.
The decision was made amid a buildup of cargo at Pakistani ports. According to Dawn newspaper, over 3,000 containers destined for Iran have accumulated at the Karachi port. Their removal has already begun.
Pakistani authorities are also considering the port of Gwadar, located on the Arabian Sea coast approximately 70 kilometers from the border with Iran, as a promising transit and logistics hub for the transshipment of Iranian cargo.
The new routes are expected to optimize supplies and provide alternative delivery routes amid restrictions on maritime transport.
