For the first time in Tajikistan, a complex surgical procedure has been performed that allows for remission of type 2 diabetes and weight loss in patients.
The surgery was performed at the Republican Scientific Center for Cardiovascular Surgery. The 57-year-old patient underwent a double anastomosis bypass—connecting the stomach to the small intestine, as well as connecting one part of the intestine to another.

The surgery was performed laparoscopically, without major incisions, reducing trauma and shortening recovery time. The patient is expected to be discharged within one to two days.

The operation was performed by the center's director, Jamakhon Rakhmonov, as well as surgeons Fathullo Bokiev and Behruz Khakimzoda, together with their colleagues.
The center noted that its specialists had trained abroad—in Iran, Turkey, India, and Kazakhstan—and then introduced modern bariatric surgery methods in Tajikistan.
