During a meeting between Deputy Minister of Transport of the Republic of Tajikistan Shoista Saidmurodzoda and State Secretary and Deputy Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation Dmitry Zverev, the possibility of restoring passenger rail service on the Dushanbe-Moscow route was discussed, the ministry reported.
The parties expressed interest in the participation of Russian companies in transport and logistics projects in the Republic of Tajikistan.
During the talks, positive growth trends in freight and passenger traffic between the two countries were noted, in part due to existing tariff preferences. Specifically, this concerns the established discount rate on imported agricultural products shipped by rail from Tajikistan to Russia.
The parties also noted a stable annual exchange of vehicle permits for the transportation of goods from third countries.
The meeting discussed the possibility of creating new transport corridors to increase freight volumes, as well as the further implementation of navigation seal technology in road transport between the countries.
In addition, the possibility of the Tajik side acquiring, including on a leasing basis, Russian railway equipment, including innovative freight, passenger and special-purpose cars, as well as the equipment and tools necessary for their maintenance, was discussed.
Particular attention was paid to developing alternative routes and removing existing infrastructure restrictions. Specifically, discussions focused on establishing regular passenger bus service between cities in Tajikistan and Russia.
