Chinese President Xi Jinping called for a focus on key national strategic needs and for making new contributions to transforming China into a power in education, science and technology, and human resources.
Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the call in a response letter sent to faculty and students of Shanghai Jiaotong University, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Southwest Jiaotong University and Beijing Jiaotong University.
In the letter, Xi Jinping noted that these four universities share common roots and are jointly celebrating their 130th founding anniversary this year. He extended his congratulations to all faculty, students, staff, and graduates of these universities.
Xi Jinping stressed the importance of strengthening independent scientific and technological innovation and enhancing China's capacity to train human resources, calling for efforts to achieve more breakthroughs in promoting the deep integration of industrial organizations, universities, and research institutes.
