Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, according to media reports, secretly informed US Presidential Envoy Steve Witkoff that Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei had agreed to negotiate with the United States on a possible agreement.
The Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper reported this, citing informed sources.
According to sources, Iran's supreme leader agreed to a quick end to the war, but only if Tehran's conditions were met.
It is noted that US President Donald Trump previously gave Iran 48 hours to open the Strait of Hormuz, after which he unexpectedly announced a decision to postpone possible strikes on Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure facilities for five days.
Trump also stated that the negotiations, which Iran officially denies, are being conducted with a “senior official,” but not with the country’s supreme leader.
Later, in an interview with Fox News, the US president noted that an agreement with Iran could be reached within five days or even sooner. He also stated that Tehran was interested in reaching a deal and described the progress of negotiations as "very good."
