On March 12, 2026, the sixth meeting of the Working Group of Member States on Current Areas of Geology and Subsoil Use Development under the Intergovernmental Council for the Exploration, Use, and Protection of Subsoil Resources was held via videoconference at the Geology Committee of the Ministry of Industry and Construction of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Astana. This was reported by the press service of the Organization's Executive Committee.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan, the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as the CIS Executive Committee.
Acting Chairman of the Geology Committee of the Ministry of Industry and Construction of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kanat Bakhytbekovich Yerubayev, was elected as the Head of the Working Group.
During the meeting, experts agreed on a draft Roadmap for the implementation of the Action Plan for the implementation of the Program for the Development of Cooperation of the CIS Member States in the Field of Study, Use, Protection, and Monitoring of Groundwater for the Period up to 2030, approved by the Decision of the Council of Heads of Government of the CIS on December 12, 2024.
The draft document is planned to be submitted for approval to the Intergovernmental Council for Exploration, Use and Protection of Subsoil Resources.
It is noted that this document is aimed at ensuring the consistent implementation of the said Program and includes an analysis of national approaches to the management, protection and monitoring of the groundwater resource base.
In addition, members of the Working Group exchanged views on the prospects for cooperation between geological and mineralogical museums of the CIS member states.
Participants noted the potential for organizing joint projects and events in the fields of geology and mineralogy, combining efforts to popularize the geological heritage from the collections of national museums of the CIS member states, holding joint exhibitions at international fairs, and organizing inter-museum internships and master classes in key areas of museum activity.
Following the discussion, the Working Group members noted the possibility of establishing an International Association of Geological and Mineralogical Museums of the CIS Member States. The participants agreed to prepare a draft regulation and consider it at the next meeting.
