Moroccan locust control efforts will begin in Khatlon Region in March. This was announced on February 9 at the first meeting of the regional locust control headquarters, chaired by Khatlon Region Governor Davlatali Said, NIAT Khovar reports.
The meeting was attended by heads of cities and districts of the region, representatives of relevant structures, as well as responsible officials from the agricultural sector.

The event addressed the preparation and organization of preventive measures. It was noted that the spread of Moroccan locusts has been recorded in several mountainous areas of the region, necessitating urgent measures to prevent and eradicate them in order to protect crops and pastures.
Davlatali Said instructed the responsible agencies to step up preparations for the locust control season, ensure coordination between city and district authorities, and develop maps of potential locust breeding sites and implement appropriate technical measures. Particular attention was paid to the repair and preparation of specialized equipment, as well as the provision of fuel and pesticides.
Moroccan locust control efforts are reported to begin in March and will be conducted in three phases. Experts note that this species of locust lays its eggs in hard-to-reach areas and then moves to valleys and agricultural lands, requiring a timely and organized response.
