Uzbekistan has demanded that Russia not infringe on the rights of its citizens, including those who violate immigration laws, during immigration checks and raids, according to the Uzbek Foreign Ministry.
On January 26, Deputy Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan Olimjon Abdullayev met with Russian Ambassador to the Republic Alexey Yerkhov. The main topic of the talks was the protection of the rights of Uzbek migrant workers in Russia. Uzbekistan's consuls general stationed in Russia's regions participated in the discussion, allowing for a thorough understanding of the real situation on the ground.
Russia was represented at the meeting by heads of the embassy's consular section, migration specialists, and law enforcement officers.
"The Uzbek side particularly emphasized the fundamental importance of preventing any form of infringement of the rights and human dignity of citizens of the Republic of Uzbekistan, including both law-abiding individuals and those who have violated migration laws, during migration checks and raids," the Foreign Ministry noted.
Following the meeting, the parties confirmed their commitment to developing a dialogue based on pragmatism and mutual respect in order to streamline migration processes and create favorable conditions for Uzbek citizens to legally work in Russia. The countries agreed to hold regular consultations to improve cooperation.
