In an interview with the Turkistan newspaper, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev spoke about the construction of a nuclear power plant (NPP) in Kazakhstan, Tengrinews.kz reports.
The president was asked about the place of nuclear energy in his strategic plans. Tokayev responded that without reliable energy generation, Kazakhstan will not be able to transition to a new technological economic model. Supercomputers, data centers, and automated industrial complexes require a great deal of energy. This is the reality of the new global technological order.
"The construction of several nuclear power plants is, on the one hand, a correction of the historical absurdity of being the world leader in uranium production and not building a single nuclear power plant. On the other hand, it is a prestige boost for Kazakhstan. It should also be remembered that with the construction of nuclear power plants, we will train a new class of technical intelligentsia, which in turn will change the very essence of our state policy," stated Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
Tokayev noted that building energy sources requires skilled personnel. The head of NVIDIA, the world's largest company with a market capitalization of approximately $4.5 trillion, predicts that blue-collar workers, or those in technical professions, will soon be among the multimillionaires.
The President also identified rare earth metals as a critical issue. Demand for these critical materials will grow, doubling over the next five years.
"This opens a new window of opportunity for Kazakhstan. It's quite possible that we will become one of the world's leaders in rare earth mineral reserves. To strengthen our position in this strategically important area, Kazakhstan has begun developing cooperation with the United States, China, Russia, South Korea, Japan, and several European Union countries," Tokayev said.
