A meeting of the Council for Cooperation in Education of the Member States of the Commonwealth of Independent States was held on November 20 in Moscow. Representatives from Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and the CIS Executive Committee participated in the event, according to the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.
The meeting participants summarized the Council's work for the year and identified areas for further collaboration. They discussed prospects for developing core organizations in environmental education, professional retraining and advanced training in new areas of technology and engineering, and training and retraining in agricultural education.
The Council reviewed the implementation of the Action Plan for the Coordination of the Activities of CIS States in the Implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 4 in 2020–2030. The contribution of sectoral ministries to the implementation of measures aimed at ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities was noted.
Representatives of the Commonwealth's education departments summarized the first year of implementation of the Concept for Quality Assurance in Professional Education in CIS Member States and endorsed the initiative to develop a draft Concept for the creation and development of an international network of centers of excellence in vocational education and training. Issues related to quality assurance in education and certification of research and teaching staff were discussed.
Council members approved the draft Program for the Implementation of the Concept for the Formation of a Unified Educational Space in the CIS for the Period 2027–2035. Following expert review, the document will be submitted to the CIS Council of Heads of Government for consideration.
The Concept for the IX Congress of Teachers and Education Workers of the CIS Member States, scheduled for October 2026 in Minsk, was also approved. Organizational matters for preparations for the Congress and the IV International Festival of Pedagogical Excellence were determined.
The Council supported the initiative to designate the Russian Institute of Contemporary Art as a core organization for training personnel for the creative industries, including art, modern media, design, and digital content production. A working group is being established to implement this decision.
Council members approved Belarus's proposal to develop a Strategy for the Development of Cooperation among CIS States on the Implementation of Inclusive Education Principles and a Roadmap for its implementation. Support was also given to the proposal to hold a Higher Education Teachers' Forum in Russia in 2026.
The book "The Peoples of the Soviet Union and the Great Victory. 1941–1945," published under the auspices of the International Association of Historians and Archivists of the CIS Countries, was presented at the meeting. The publication is recommended for use in educational settings.
It is reported that the next meeting of the Council for Cooperation in Education of the CIS countries is planned to be held in 2026 in Tajikistan.
