On November 20, 2025, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Tajikistan Furuta Keiko attended the completion ceremony for the construction of a new school building for School No. 45 in Namuna village, Dusti District. The project was implemented under the Japanese Government's Grant Assistance for Grassroots and Human Security (GGP) program, the Embassy reported.
The ceremony was also attended by Deputy Chairman of the Khatlon Region Kurbonzoda Amirkhon, Chairman of the Dusti District Nishonzoda Davron, school staff and village residents.
A grant of US$113,691 from the Government of Japan to the Dusti District Government was used to construct an additional school building, which will provide better educational conditions for approximately 350 students annually.
In her speech, Furuta Keiko congratulated those present on the successful completion of this socially significant project and noted that Japan, as a reliable friend of Tajikistan, has been providing assistance to the Tajik people in various areas for over 30 years since the country's independence, with education occupying a special place.
The Chairman of the Dusti District, the staff of the educational institution and the village residents expressed gratitude to the Government and people of Japan for their support.
The Government of Japan intends to continue providing assistance for the socioeconomic development of Tajikistan. Assistance under the GGP is provided primarily to local authorities, educational and medical institutions, and international NGOs in developing countries. Since 1996, the Government of Japan has supported 470 humanitarian projects in Tajikistan under the program, totaling $39.2 million, of which 158 were in education.
