The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan has refuted information published on October 20, 2025, on the Radio Ozodi website under the headline "One suspect in the attempted murder of a Russian woman was taken from Tajikistan to Kazan."
The report claimed that the suspect in this incident, Rifat Sultonov, was a native of Tajikistan. The Ministry of Internal Affairs reports that this information is untrue.
In fact, the detainee is Rafis Rustemovich Sultanov , born in 1995, a citizen of the Russian Federation and a resident of Kazan. He is not a citizen of Tajikistan .
After committing the crime—the attempted murder of I.V. Shevyrova—Sultanov fled to Tajikistan. At the request of the competent authorities of the Russian Federation, he was detained by Tajik law enforcement agencies and handed over to the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs emphasized that Radio Ozodi cited the Russian publication Realnoe Vremya, which did not indicate the suspect's place of birth or citizenship , but merely reported that Sultanov admitted his guilt and gave his first testimony outside of Russia.
"In this regard, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan appeals to media representatives, especially Radio Ozodi, to refrain from disseminating false and unverified information in order to avoid misleading the public," the ministry said in a statement.
