Tajikistan has significantly increased the state fee for divorce. President Emomali Rahmon signed the corresponding amendments and additions to the Law "On State Fees" on October 1.
According to the amendments made to the Law "On State Duty", the state duty for recognizing a marriage as invalid is set at the following amount:
- If the application is submitted by one of the spouses, the fee will be 2 calculated indicators, which is equivalent to 150 somoni (previously – 1 indicator, or 75 somoni);
- for a joint application by spouses to the civil registry office, the fee is set at 10 calculated indicators – 750 somoni (previously – 5 indicators, or 375 somoni);
- In case of divorce by court decision, the fee will be 14 calculated indicators – 1,050 somoni (previously – 7 indicators, or 525 somoni).
Thus, the fee for divorce in Tajikistan has doubled.
It's worth noting that the state fee for divorce was also increased last December. At the time, the country's parliament justified this measure by citing a "reduction in the number of divorces in the country."
