A seminar entitled "Promoting Sustainable Development and Competitiveness of the Apricot Value Chain in Tajikistan" was held in Dushanbe. The event was organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and a consulting company, with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Export Agency of the Republic of Tajikistan, according to the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.
The seminar is part of the "One Country, One Priority Product" initiative, launched by FAO in 2021 to support countries in promoting their unique agricultural products. The initiative strengthens the entire product value chain, from production to marketing, while minimizing environmental and social impacts. Tajikistan selected apricot as a priority product in 2022, given its importance for agriculture, particularly in the Sughd and Khatlon regions.
The country is among the world's leading dried apricot exporters, but it sometimes faces challenges, including outdated production methods, limited access to finance and technology, and vulnerability to climate change. Experts analyze the value chain, help identify priorities, and develop an investment plan.
Representatives from government agencies, businesses, and international organizations participated in the seminar. This marks the start of the country's efforts to develop the apricot sector. The goal of the seminar is to establish coordination and develop a roadmap for sustainable growth of the apricot production industry in Tajikistan.
