On October 1, the autumn conscription into the Armed Forces of the Republic of Tajikistan began in Tajikistan and will last until the end of November. Responsible government agencies and military recruitment officers have taken the necessary measures to organize and conduct this important national campaign at the proper level, according to the press center of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Tajikistan.
On August 29 of this year, the Decree of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan "On the Discharge of Military Personnel Who Have Completed the Established Terms of Military Service and the Re-Conscription of Citizens of the Republic of Tajikistan Born in 1998-2007 for Military Service" was signed. According to this Decree, the autumn conscription of citizens for mandatory military service will begin in early October. In connection with this, events have already been held involving representatives of government agencies, the Ministry of Defense, law enforcement agencies, and military commissioners from all regions and districts of the country.
The main focus of these meetings was on issues of compliance with the law, as well as improving the quality and level of preparation of recruitment activities.
The Ministry of Defense press center reports that Tajikistan holds two annual conscriptions for mandatory military service: a spring conscription from April 1 to the end of May, and a fall conscription from October 1 to the end of November.
Military service for young men aged 18 to 27 who have graduated from secondary or vocational schools is set at 24 months. Citizens who have graduated from universities with military departments receive their first officer rank—junior lieutenant—after 12 months of service. These young personnel undergo preliminary theoretical training and then consolidate their knowledge through practical experience in military units.
In January 2021, the updated Law of the Republic of Tajikistan "On Military Duty and Military Service" was adopted. The law consists of 10 chapters and 62 articles, covering all aspects of conscription and other measures regulating registration and service.
As the Ministry of Defense press center notes, this law was developed taking into account best international practices and adapted to the realities of modern Tajik society. It includes a number of innovations concerning the conscription process, citizen registration, increased responsibilities, conditions of service, and the distribution of powers between central and local authorities. All these measures are aimed at effectively implementing the conscription campaign.
