The British newspaper The Sunday Times has named 13 Russian commanders believed to be involved in the murders and torture of civilians in Bucha. Eight of them have already appeared in investigations, but five are being named for the first time, the Agency notes .
New defendants
- Colonel General Valeriy Solodchuk commanded units accused of murder. Putin promoted him this year. Ukrainian intelligence had previously linked Solodchuk's subordinates to crimes in the Kyiv region.
- Colonel Andrei Kondrov commanded the 5th Tank Brigade, whose soldiers are accused of robbery and murder. He has not been personally charged.
- Major General Vadim Pankov—according to The Times, ordered the execution of 30 civilians and forced others to bury the bodies of Russian soldiers. His 45th Airborne Brigade participated in the battle for Gostomel.
- Colonel Yuri Medvedev—his subordinates committed more than 40 rapes. In 2022, he was killed by his own soldiers.
