The Romit Biosphere Reserve in Tajikistan has been officially included in the UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves. The decision was made on September 27, 2025, at the 37th session of the International Coordinating Council of the Man and the Biosphere Program in Hangzhou, China, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan reported .
The inclusion of the Romit Nature Reserve in the UNESCO World Network of Nature Reserves underscores Tajikistan's commitment to sustainable development, the protection of biodiversity, and the harmonious coexistence of humans with nature.
The biosphere reserve is located in a unique ecological zone and is known for its rich biodiversity, the presence of endemic species, and the preservation of traditional methods of nature management by local communities.
Experts note that recognizing Romit as a successful conservation model will strengthen scientific research, environmental education, and sustainable economic development in the region. Including the reserve in UNESCO's World Heritage Network creates opportunities for sharing experiences with other countries participating in the Man and the Biosphere program.
The Tajik Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that integrating Romit into the global network of nature reserves will be an important step in developing the country's environmental policy and supporting conservation initiatives that take into account the interests of local residents.
