In Tashkent, the disposal of over 3.2 million units of medications seized in the criminal case surrounding the "Dok-1 Max" syrup has begun. This was reported by Fergana.ru, citing the press service of the Main Directorate of the Bureau of Compulsory Enforcement (BCE) in Tashkent.
The decision to destroy the medications was made based on a writ of execution from the Tashkent City Criminal Court. Among the items to be destroyed is Doc-1 Max syrup, which, according to the Ministry of Health, has caused the deaths of at least 68 children. More than 811,400 tablets and 101,600 bottles of Doc-1 Max, as well as more than 2.25 million tablets and nearly 57,000 bottles of Ambronol syrup, are slated for incineration.
Medicines are destroyed in special incinerators, taking measures to prevent harm to the environment. The process is overseen by law enforcement officials, the Sanitary and Epidemiological Service, the Ecology Committee, and witnesses.
The "Doc-1 Max" case received widespread public attention in the fall of 2022 following a series of child deaths in Uzbekistan linked to the use of a drug produced by the Indian pharmaceutical company Marion Biotech. A dangerous chemical compound, ethylene glycol, was found in the syrup. Inspections by the State Security Service (SGB) revealed gross violations of regulatory documents, leading to the illegal entry of the drug onto the market.
The trial involved 23 defendants. In February 2024, Indian citizen Raghvendra Prathara, head of Quramax Medical LLC—the official importer of Doc-1 Max—was sentenced to 20 years in prison. Sardor Kariev, former director of the Agency for the Development of the Pharmaceutical Industry of Uzbekistan, received an 18-year sentence. Two of his deputies were sentenced to 16 years each, and another former agency employee received a 16.5-year sentence. The remaining defendants received more lenient sentences.
In July 2025, an eight-year-old girl died in the Jizzakh region after becoming a first-degree disabled person as a result of using Doc-1 Max.
