On Monday, Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing. This was reported by the Tajik leader's press service.
During the talks, the parties discussed a wide range of issues of bilateral and multilateral cooperation, including cooperation within the framework of international and regional organizations, primarily the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
“We highly value your contribution, Mr. Xi Jinping, to strengthening and expanding multifaceted cooperation between our countries,” Emomali Rahmon noted.
The interlocutors emphasized that, despite the complex geopolitical conditions, the SCO makes an important contribution to strengthening regional security, stability, and the development of mutually beneficial relations.
The President of Tajikistan expressed support for China's new "Global Governance" initiative, noting its alignment with Dushanbe's efforts to ensure the rule of law, lasting peace, security, and sustainable development. He stated that the initiative has significant potential for advancing the two countries' shared goals.
Particular attention was paid to expanding cooperation in trade and economic matters, digitalization, modernization of transport infrastructure and logistics, and exploiting the region's transit potential. The parties discussed attracting Chinese investment and technology to the Tajik economy.
Prospects for cooperation in strategically important areas—hydropower, the creation of data centers, strengthening cybersecurity, and the use of artificial intelligence and digital technologies—were separately discussed.
The parties recognized the expediency of developing interregional relations, as well as expanding contacts in the areas of culture, education, science, technology, and tourism.
It was noted that Tajikistan and China hold similar positions on issues of ensuring international security and combating modern challenges and threats.
The negotiations took place in an atmosphere of friendship and mutual understanding.
