Texas Republican congressional candidate Valentina Gomez released a campaign video in which she burned a Quran with a flamethrower, Timeline Daily reports.
In the video, Gomez declares that Islam in Texas "must be eradicated once and for all." According to media reports, the politician is running for the U.S. House of Representatives in the state's 31st Congressional District. She accused Muslims of threatening Christian countries with violence and called on supporters to help her win the election to achieve her goals.
The video sparked sharp criticism and outrage among social media users.
Earlier in June, an unknown man burned a Quran near a local mosque in Lyon, stealing the Muslim holy book from the temple. The Council of Mosques appealed to the authorities to condemn the attacker's actions. In March of this year, in the municipality of Uddevalla in southwestern Sweden, an unknown person threw a Molotov cocktail into a mosque; the fire was extinguished before it spread.
