Renowned American judge Frank Caprio, recognized for his fairness and compassion as "the sweetest judge in the world," has died at the age of 88. According to his official Facebook page, the cause of death was pancreatic cancer.
Frank Caprio served as a municipal court judge in Providence, Rhode Island, from 1985 to 2023. He became famous not only for his work on the bench but also for his courtroom videos, which went viral on social media, including TikTok, where he had over 1.6 million followers. These videos formed the basis for the series "Caught in Providence," which first aired in 2000 and was nominated for four Daytime Emmy Awards.
Judge Caprio was valued for his unique blend of rigor and humanity: he listened attentively to people, showed understanding for their circumstances, and often reduced sentences based on the merits of the case. His approach to justice earned him worldwide renown and the affection of the public.
In December 2023, shortly after his 87th birthday, Caprio announced his diagnosis of pancreatic cancer via social media, after which he continued to share his philosophy of life and justice with viewers until his final days.
"His legacy lives on in the countless acts of kindness he inspired. In his honor, we will strive to bring a little more compassion into the world—just as he did every day," the official statement reads.
Frank Caprio left behind a legacy of justice and humanity that has inspired millions of people around the world.
