The opening ceremony of the IV Military Sports Games of the Armed Forces of the Member States of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) took place on Poklonnaya Hill in Moscow, the press service of the Organization's Executive Committee reported.
More than 200 athletes from Belarus, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia will take part in the games.
"Today, in the Hall of Glory, we are opening the 4th Military Sports Games of the Armed Forces of the CIS Member States, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. Eighty years ago, our ancestors fought for freedom and independence, defending our common homeland. Their heroism is our pride and our responsibility," said Colonel Andrei Zykov, Head of the Physical Training and Sports Department of the Russian Armed Forces, in his welcoming speech.
Athletes will compete in five disciplines: officer triathlon, service or standard-issue weapon shooting, army hand-to-hand combat, sambo, and kettlebell lifting. The competitions will be held at the facilities of the organizer, the Central Sports Club of the Army (CSKA).
