Large-scale implementation of programs for the development of social, transport and digital infrastructure continues in the capital of Tajikistan. According to the results of the first half of 2025, Dushanbe recorded an increase in key socio-economic indicators. This was reported by representatives of the Executive Authority of the city at a press conference dedicated to summing up the results of six months.
Education and preschool institutions
The construction of 30 general education institutions designed for 53 thousand pupils in two shifts, as well as 77 kindergartens that can accept up to 18 thousand pupils, is underway in the city. Currently, there are 169 preschool institutions in the city, where over 35 thousand children study. The educational process is provided by 2052 educators and 12,338 school teachers.
Urban development and improvement
The capital's appearance has changed significantly: architectural styles with elements of European, Eastern and national architecture are actively used, which forms a modern urban landscape. Over 630 thousand trees and shrubs, 15.6 million flowers were planted in six months, and over 163 thousand square meters of lawns were landscaped. 25 mass clean-up days were held with the participation of 808.9 thousand people, during which over 3.4 thousand tons of garbage were removed.
Transport and digitalization
From January to June 2025, all modes of transport transported 9.3 million tons of cargo to Dushanbe, which is 7.3% more than in the same period last year. Of these, 8.5 million tons (92%) were transported by road. Passenger traffic reached 218 million people (+7%).
As part of the development of a sustainable transport system for the capital, 60 new electric buses were purchased, and more than 11 thousand electric vehicles and 400 charging stations were also purchased and imported.
In order to accelerate digital transformation, the “Digital Dushanbe” system has been implemented in 121 city divisions, covering 1,071 workplaces.
Economy and finance
Retail turnover in the capital amounted to over 10 billion somoni, which is 17.1% higher than the same period last year. The revenue plan (excluding social tax) was fulfilled by 118.8% – 2.7 billion somoni were received in the budget, which exceeds the planned figure by 430 million.
The revenues of the district budgets were distributed as follows: Ismoili Somoni district – 666 million somoni (118%), Shokhmansur – 713 million (109%), Firdavsi – 498 million (126%), Sino – 814 million (124%).
Social sphere and employment
During the reporting period, authorities received 11,995 requests, of which 8,033 were from legal entities and 3,962 were from individuals. Official responses were given to 1,576 of them, 6,164 requests were taken into account, and 293 are under consideration.
23,422 jobs were created, 6,721 unemployed people were employed, including 3,245 women. 703 socially vulnerable citizens were provided with jobs under quotas. 42 employees underwent advanced training, 16 seminars and training sessions were organized.
Healthcare and Culture
The city's healthcare system includes 61 institutions with 2,779 beds. Medical care is provided to the population by 3,798 doctors and 6,140 nurses. In the current half-year, 425 new employees were accepted into the healthcare system.
There are 24 cultural institutions, including 6 educational (4 music schools, 1 art school and 1 school of arts), 2 libraries, 2 theaters and 1 scientific and methodological center.
Women, Youth, Sports and Tourism
Women make up more than 616.6 thousand residents of the city, of which 208.5 thousand are young girls. Over the past six months, 1,150 women have completed specialized courses, and 15.1 thousand women entrepreneurs have been registered.
In the sphere of youth policy, physical culture and sports, 2,549 events were held with a total coverage of more than 950 thousand people. 5,742 athletes are training in specialized Olympic reserve schools under the guidance of 212 coaches. Over the first half of the year, 3,993 medals were won: 1,408 gold, 1,149 silver and 1,436 bronze.
Over the reporting period, over 762 thousand tourists arrived in Dushanbe, which is 31% more than in the same period last year. 96.5 thousand foreign tourists arrived through the capital's international airport and railway station (+28.6 thousand compared to 2024).
Agriculture and Security
There are 785 farms in the city, cultivating a total of 1,932 hectares of land. Spring and autumn sowing was carried out on an area of 1,666.3 hectares. According to law enforcement agencies, a decrease in crime has been recorded, including a decrease in the number of murders, hooliganism, crimes among minors and corruption offenses.
At the press conference, representatives of the mayor's office answered journalists' questions regarding priority areas of Dushanbe's development, including issues of ecology, architecture, employment, pricing policy and urban development.
