A joint Tajik-Chinese laboratory for the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity has begun work at the Research Center for Ecology and Environment of Central Asia at the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan. This was reported by the press service of the academy.
The grand opening took place on July 21 in Dushanbe. The laboratory was created within the framework of the Belt and Road initiative in order to implement the agreements reached at the highest level between the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and the Chairman of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping.
The new research centre will become an important platform for international cooperation in environmental protection, scientific research and innovation. Its tasks include the development and implementation of advanced technologies for the conservation of biological resources, especially in the arid regions of Central Asia, as well as promoting “green” and sustainable development.
As noted by the participants of the opening ceremony, the creation of the laboratory will expand scientific and technical cooperation between Tajikistan and China, provide expert support for environmental projects, and attract specialists from other Central Asian countries as partners to conduct joint research.
The laboratory’s activities are aimed at implementing the initiative “Building a Society of Common Destiny between Tajikistan and China at a New Stage”, as well as fulfilling national tasks in the field of environmental protection and rational use of natural resources.
