In the coming days, abnormal heat will persist in Tajikistan, caused by a steady influx of dry and hot air masses. This was reported by the Agency for Hydrometeorology of the Republic of Tajikistan.
According to weather forecasters, on July 22 and 23 the air temperature in the valleys of the Khatlon region will rise to +41…+46°C.
In the valley regions of republican subordination, +39…+44°C is expected, in the Sughd region — +38…+43°C. In the foothill and mountainous regions, the temperature will reach +35…+40°C, and in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) — up to +39°C, in some areas of Darvaz — up to +43°C.
Meteorologists warn that the ongoing heat increases the risk of glacial mudflows, especially in the western regions of GBAO, as well as in the mountainous and foothill regions of Sughd Region and RRS (Districts of Republican Subordination).
It is noted that possible mudflows can cause a sharp rise in water levels in mountain rivers, which poses a threat to the lives of the population, infrastructure facilities and agricultural lands.
Emergency services are calling on the population to take precautions, limit movement in mountainous areas and monitor operational reports.
