On July 17, 2025, the Russian Institute for Strategic Studies hosted the international conference "Combating International Terrorism: Russia's Approaches and Contribution." The event was attended by Deputy Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Valery Semerikov, the press service of the Organization reports.

During the discussion, Semerikov spoke about the CSTO's activities in the field of countering terrorism. He emphasized that the Organization has a legal framework that allows for the coordination of efforts by CSTO member states. Semerikov also noted the importance of ongoing joint operations, such as "Mercenary", "Channel", "Illegal" and "PROXY", aimed at combating terrorism, drug trafficking, illegal migration and crimes in the digital space.
The conference was also attended by the Chairman of the Coordination Service of the Council of Commanders of the Border Troops of the Member States of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Alexander Manilov, Deputy Head of the CIS Anti-Terrorism Center Sergei Zubkov and Deputy Director of the Executive Committee of the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Artur Golovanov.
In conclusion, Semerikov emphasized the importance of international partnership in the security sphere. Among the key partners of the CSTO, he singled out the United Nations (UN), the CIS and the SCO. He paid special attention to the implementation of the Targeted Interstate Program for Strengthening the Tajik-Afghan Border as an important element in ensuring stability in the CSTO's area of responsibility.
