About 2.1 million spectators attended the concert of American singer Lady Gaga in Rio de Janeiro on May 3, The Guardian reports. The event was free, Interfax reports.
Police have detained two people, one of them a teenager, on suspicion of preparing a terrorist attack at a concert. According to law enforcement, the detainees were allegedly recruiting potential perpetrators of the attacks.
Police officers carried out raids in the states of Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Rio Grande do Sul and Mato Grosso. During house searches, they confiscated mobile phones and a number of other electronic devices.
This concert broke the previous year's attendance record set by the singer Madonna, whose concert on the same Copacabana beach was attended by about 1.6 million people.
Local authorities expect the concert to bring in around R$600 million ($106 million) to the city's economy. It was part of a special project to hold similar large, free music shows over the next four years.
