One of Pope Francis's cars will be converted into a mobile medical center for children and sent to the Gaza Strip, Tengrinews.kz reports with reference to Corriere Della Sere.
This was one of Francis's final wishes before his death. He bequeathed the popemobile, which he used to make a pilgrimage to the Holy Land in 2014, to the Catholic charity Caritas Jerusalem to help alleviate the grave humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.
The vehicle has been handed over to Caritas Jerusalem, which is already refurbishing it with the support of Caritas Sweden.
"This is not just a means of transport, it is a message that the world has not forgotten the children in Gaza," said Caritas Sweden Secretary General Peter Bruhn.
The new mobile clinic, staffed by doctors and paramedics, will be deployed to communities without access to existing health facilities as soon as safe access to Gaza becomes possible, Caritas said.
The vehicle will be driven by a driver and doctors. It will contain diagnostic and treatment equipment, including rapid infection tests, suture kits, syringes and needles, oxygen tanks, vaccines and a refrigerator for medicines.
Pope Francis has repeatedly called for a ceasefire in the wars between Russia and Ukraine and between Israel and Hamas, most recently on Easter Sunday, the day before his death.
Let us recall that the conclave that will vote for Francis' successor will meet on Wednesday.
