China continues to strengthen its status as Tajikistan's largest foreign investor, and bilateral investment cooperation is reaching a new level. While just a decade and a half ago, Chinese capital was only just beginning to enter the country's economy, today Chinese investment has become a key factor in industrial development, infrastructure modernization, and the expansion of the country's production potential.

From initial investments to strategic partnerships The first major Chinese investments arrived in Tajikistan in 2008. Since 2017, China has been the leading foreign investor in the country's economy, implementing projects in industry, energy, transport, mining, agriculture, and free economic zones.

One of the key factors in expanding cooperation has been the strengthening of political dialogue between Dushanbe and Beijing. Today, relations between the two countries are developing within the framework of a comprehensive strategic partnership, and the joint implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative is creating favorable conditions for the emergence of new investment projects.
The alignment of the Chinese initiative with Tajikistan's National Development Strategy to 2030 is of great importance. Another important milestone was the signing of the Agreement on the Promotion and Reciprocal Protection of Investments on July 5, 2024, which entered into force on August 20, 2025. The document provides additional guarantees for capital protection, increased transparency in business conditions, and the creation of a more stable investment environment. These mechanisms open up additional opportunities for Chinese companies to expand their presence. Among the most promising areas are the digital economy, artificial intelligence, new energy sources, electric vehicle production, modern agriculture, processing, and big data.

Investments become the basis for economic growth In recent years, dozens of industrial enterprises, transport infrastructure, energy, and mining facilities have been built and modernized in Tajikistan with Chinese capital. Long-term partnership Today, China remains not only Tajikistan's largest investor but also one of its most important strategic partners. Improved legal frameworks, a favorable investment climate, and expanded cooperation in emerging high-tech sectors provide the foundation for further growth in bilateral economic relations. Chinese investment is expected to play an even more significant role in the implementation of national industrialization, digital transformation, and agricultural modernization programs in the coming years.
