From June 25 to 27, 2026, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Women's Forum, dedicated to the theme of "Women's Leadership," was held in Bishkek. The event was organized by the Ministry of Labor, Social Security, and Migration of the Kyrgyz Republic, according to the Organization's press service.
The forum was attended by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic Ulan Mamatkanov, representatives of governments, state and public organizations, diplomatic missions of SCO member states, as well as a delegation from the SCO Secretariat headed by Deputy Secretary-General Piao Yanfan.
During the meetings, participants exchanged views on the achievements of SCO member states in expanding women's participation in government and public administration. They also discussed political, legal, and institutional measures to ensure gender equality, as well as proposals for creating conditions for women's comprehensive development.
Forum participants noted that ensuring equal opportunities for women is essential for achieving stability and sustainable progress. They believe that only women's full and equal participation in political and socioeconomic processes can build a just society, ensure the prosperity of nations, and effectively respond to today's global challenges.
Speaking at the forum, SCO Deputy Secretary-General Piao Yanfan emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and security as the foundation for protecting women and preventing violence against them. She also noted the need to increase women's participation in economic globalization, the scientific and technological revolution, and industrial transformation.
Piao Yanfan also proposed promoting more equal participation of women in global governance. She confirmed the SCO Secretariat's readiness to continue supporting the SCO Women's Forum as a platform for dialogue and cooperation.
