A gala concert was held in Beijing as part of the celebrations for the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China. It was attended by General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee Xi Jinping and other party and government leaders.
Party and state leaders Xi Jinping, Li Qiang, Zhao Leji, Wang Huning, Cai Qi, Ding Xuexiang, Li Xi, and Han Zheng attended the concert. They were greeted with applause from the audience gathered Monday evening at the Great Hall of the People in central Beijing.
The concert commemorating the anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China was titled "People First." It opened with a performance by a children's choir. The concert program consisted of five parts. One of them was dedicated to honoring the fallen revolutionaries who stood at the origins of the Communist Party. The famous orchestral "Ode to the Red Banner" was performed in their memory.
The theme of several concert numbers was inspired by memories of the unity of the army and the people during the revolutionary battles. Songs performed included "Azalea," "Ode to the Yellow River," and "Sky in the Liberated Areas." The program continued with numbers depicting the leading role of the CPC in the subsequent period of the country's development and formation.
Using a variety of artistic means, the performers reflected the changes taking place in China since the beginning of the reform and opening-up policies. The oratorio "Field of Hope" rang out as a voice of the era of national rejuvenation. The concert culminated in performances symbolizing the dawn of a new era with a rich orchestral palette. The works "Song of Mountains and Waters" and "Hearts in Unison" evoked a lively response from the audience. At the end of the concert, the audience stood and chorused the song "Without the Communist Party, There Would Be No New China."
The gala concert, which lasted until late in the evening, was attended by about 3,000 people, including leaders of the Party, state, and People's Liberation Army of China, representatives of democratic parties, national award winners, CPC veterans, and foreign guests.
