Although Tajikistan has the largest hydropower potential in Central Asia, a significant portion of its energy resources remains untapped.
The country ranks first in the region in hydropower potential and is among the world's leaders in hydropower reserves. According to estimates, Tajikistan's annual hydropower potential is 527 billion kWh, according to the press service of the State Committee on Investments and State Property Management of the Republic of Tajikistan.
Furthermore, the republic accounts for approximately 60% of Central Asia's water resources. However, approximately 95% of the country's hydroelectric potential remains untapped.

Significant opportunities for development in other renewable energy sectors also remain. Solar energy potential is estimated at 369,600 MW, but it remains largely untapped. The country's wind energy potential, at 4,485 MW, is in the early stages of development.
Today, approximately 98% of Tajikistan's electricity is generated from renewable energy sources. In accordance with its national energy sector development strategy, the country aims to achieve 100% renewable energy generation by 2032 and achieve "green country" status by 2037.
Tajikistan's energy sector offers significant investment opportunities in hydropower, solar and wind energy, energy infrastructure development, energy storage systems, and clean electricity export projects.
