On the night of June 2, Russia launched a massive strike on Ukrainian territory using drones and ballistic missiles. The attacks left several cities dead and wounded.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russian military forces used drones and Kalibr cruise missiles launched from the Caspian Sea.
The heaviest losses were recorded in Kyiv and Dnipro. According to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, four people were killed and 51 others were injured in the capital. Thirty-five of the injured were hospitalized. Power outages occurred in three districts of the city.
Kyiv City Military Administration Head Timur Tkachenko reported that debris from a downed missile fell on the roof of a residential building in the Podilskyi district, causing a fire and shattering windows.
In Dnipro, according to Oleksandr Ganzha, head of the regional military administration, five people were killed, including a 73-year-old woman. Another 25 people were injured. One of the strikes hit a residential area, where a fire also broke out.
Six people, including an 11-year-old girl, were injured in shelling in two districts of Kharkiv, according to Igor Terekhov, head of the regional military administration.
Ukrainian authorities continue to document the aftermath of the strikes in various regions of the country. Information on the number of casualties and the extent of destruction is being clarified.
On the eve of the attack, Russian President Vladimir Putin declared that the recent Ukrainian Armed Forces strike on Starobilsk in the annexed Luhansk region had given the war a "new quality." According to Russian-appointed regional authorities, the strike partially destroyed the buildings of a local college and killed 21 students.
On the evening of June 1, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned of the possibility of a new massive Russian strike on Ukrainian cities.
The previous large-scale attack occurred on the night of May 24, when Russian forces struck Kyiv and the Kyiv region. According to Ukrainian authorities, two people were killed and 80 others were injured.
