The Agency for Innovation and Digital Technologies of Tajikistan issued an appeal to e-wallet users amid discussions on a new pilot project on taxation of individual entrepreneurs.
The agency reported that organizational and outreach work related to the implementation of the new mechanism has begun. Implementation of the project is planned to begin on September 1, 2026, following the completion of the public information campaign.
As the announcement emphasizes, individuals—both now and after the project's implementation—will not be subject to taxation. This applies exclusively to commercial and entrepreneurial activities.
A 3% tax rate is envisaged for entrepreneurs and individuals conducting commercial activities through electronic payments. The agency noted that the previously applicable rate was 6%, and the new mechanism would reduce it by half.
The Agency for Innovation and Digital Technologies also attempted to address users' concerns regarding monitoring of transfers and payments. The statement emphasized that, in accordance with banking secrecy laws, personal transactions will not be monitored.
The new procedure applies only to activities related to generating income from trade, provision of services, or entrepreneurship through electronic platforms and digital payments.
In this regard, users of electronic wallets were advised not to give in to anxiety and continue to actively use electronic payment methods.
In recent years, electronic payments and digital wallets have become widespread in Tajikistan, and the country's authorities are consistently promoting the digitalization of financial services and cashless payments.
