Capsules containing soil from the burial sites of prominent Tajik figures—Nusratullo Makhsum, Shirinsho Shotemur, and public figure Nisor Muhammad—have been delivered from Russia to their homeland.
On the morning of May 19, the capsules were received by Tajik President Emomali Rahmon at Dushanbe International Airport. The head of state honored the memory of historical figures who played a vital role in the development of Tajikistan.
A memorial service is expected to be held at the Imam Azam Central Mosque in Dushanbe. Afterward, the symbolic soil will be delivered to the Luchob Memorial Cemetery.
On May 18, Tajikistan's Foreign Minister, Sirojiddin Mukhriddin, received symbolic handfuls of soil from the burial sites of Nusratullo Makhsum, Shirinsho Shotemur, and Nisor Muhammad, located at the Donskoy Cemetery in Moscow.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan stated that the delivery of symbolic soil to their homeland embodied the spiritual connection of these historical figures with the Fatherland to which they dedicated their lives.
Nusratullo Makhsum, Shirinsho Shotemur, and Nisor Muhammad were executed in Moscow in 1937 during Stalin's purges on political charges. They were later buried in mass graves near Moscow.
After Joseph Stalin's death in the 1950s and 1960s, the cases of these statesmen and public figures were reviewed. They were subsequently found not guilty and rehabilitated.
