Tajikistan plans to toughen penalties for those who fail to pay child support, according to Akhtam Abdullozoda, head of the country's Penitentiary Service.
According to him, in the future, citizens who fail to pay child support will be denied access to a number of government services. Specifically, they will be unable to pay transport taxes, marry, or obtain permits to begin construction work.
Currently, failure to pay child support in Tajikistan is punishable by criminal prosecution, imprisonment, and a ban on leaving the country.
According to Abdullozoda, 270 criminal cases for child support evasion were opened in 2025, 50 more than in 2024. The number of people placed on the wanted list and hiding their whereabouts also increased. In 2025, their number reached 753, 239 more than in the same period the year before.
In addition, according to the Penitentiary Service, travel outside Tajikistan was restricted for 13,700 men.
It is also reported that in 2025, 180 million somoni of alimony were paid in the republic, which is 147 million somoni more than in 2024.
