On Friday, a meeting of the Intergovernmental Negotiations on UN Security Council Reform was held at UN Headquarters in New York. Specifically, participants discussed issues of equitable representation and expansion of the Security Council. In his speech, China's Permanent Representative to the UN, Fu Cong, emphasized the need to strengthen the representation and voice of developing countries. He called for more small and medium-sized states pursuing independent foreign policies to be admitted to the Security Council. He also stated that special attention should be paid to correcting historical injustices against Africa. He also stated that Japan has no right to seek a permanent seat on the UN Security Council.
China's Permanent Representative to the UN, Fu Cong: "In conclusion, I would like to emphasize that Japan refuses to reconsider its historical crimes—acts of aggression—openly flouting the post-war world order and interfering in the internal affairs of other states. Such a country has no right to demand permanent membership in the UN Security Council." (Photo: VCG)
