Kuzbass has expanded the list of sectors where migrants are prohibited from working.

In Russia's Kemerovo Region, also known as Kuzbass, the list of industries in which foreign citizens are prohibited from working has been expanded. Coal mining and precious metals mining have been added to the list. The corresponding decree was published on the legal information portal, Interfax reports.

According to the document, a ban has been established for 2026 on the employment of foreign citizens working under patents by business entities operating in Kuzbass in a number of economic activities.

Specifically, foreign citizens are prohibited from working in 43 sectors. These include coal mining, with the exception of anthracite, coking, and brown coal mined underground; the extraction of precious metal ores and sands, as well as rare metal ores; coke and liquid fuel production; the production of basic chemicals, fertilizers, and nitrogen compounds, plastics and synthetic rubber; and the production of organic chemicals.

In addition, the ban applies to the production of medicines, weapons and aircraft.

Some restrictions will remain in place from 2025. Effective January 1, 2025, foreign citizens in the Kemerovo Region are prohibited from working in the production of baby food and dietary foods, in retail, in taxis and public transportation, in hotels, and in personnel recruitment.

Foreigners are also prohibited from working in the preschool, primary, and secondary education systems, in medical practices, in beauty and massage salons, and in the provision of daycare services for children.
