The implementation of the Dushanbe-Kulma highway reconstruction and modernization project on the Rushan-Varshez section was discussed at a meeting between Tajikistan's Minister of Transport, Azim Ibrohim, and an Islamic Development Bank delegation led by Farid Ahmad Khan, Regional Director of Operations for the Islamic Development Bank Group, in Dushanbe. This was reported by the country's Ministry of Transport.
The Minister of Transport noted that this road is part of the international multimodal corridor "China – Tajikistan – Uzbekistan – Turkmenistan – Iran – Turkey – Europe" and is of great strategic importance both for Tajikistan and for the entire region.
The Rushan-Varshez highway is 235 kilometers long and is classified as a Category III road.
The project will be implemented in stages. The first stage involves reconstructing and upgrading 40 kilometers of road, and the second stage involves 33 kilometers.
The parties also discussed issues of developing bilateral cooperation, including the implementation of state investment projects in the field of road infrastructure and transport.
Farid Ahmad Khan expressed gratitude to the leadership of the Ministry of Transport for their efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation, as well as for the timely and high-quality implementation of projects financed by the Bank.
It was noted that the Islamic Development Bank intends to continue cooperation in the development of the transport sector of the Republic of Tajikistan.
It is noted that Tajikistan and the Islamic Development Bank have been cooperating since the early 2000s and have already achieved a number of significant results. The Islamic Development Bank has made a significant contribution to the implementation of projects to reconstruct and modernize international highways in Tajikistan.
