Energy ministers from the G7 countries expressed support for the idea of taking preemptive measures, in particular using strategic oil reserves, due to the situation in the Middle East, Bloomberg reported on Wednesday, citing a communiqué from the ministers.
According to the ministers' communiqué, they agreed in principle to the use of proactive measures, including the use of strategic oil reserves.
The document also notes that the G7 countries are closely monitoring trends in the energy market and coordinating their actions within the G7, as well as with international partners and member states of the International Energy Agency.
Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron stated that the G7 countries are gradually beginning to lean towards the idea of using oil from their strategic reserves.
The 32 countries that are members of the International Energy Agency are reported to hold strategic petroleum reserves as part of a collective emergency response system created to deal with crises in the oil market.
The International Energy Agency member countries hold more than 1.2 billion barrels of strategic oil reserves.
