Maintenance of converter substations for the CASA-1000 regional power transmission project will be provided until May 2028, according to the press service of the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of the Republic of Tajikistan.
The corresponding agreement was reached following a high-level dialogue on the implementation of the CASA-1000 project, which began on March 10, 2026, in the city of Ludvika (Sweden).
According to the agreement reached, a consortium of Hitachi Energy (Sweden) and Cobra Instalaciones y Servicios SA (Spain) will carry out technical maintenance of the project’s converter substations located in Sangtuda, Tajikistan, and Nowshera, Pakistan.

It is noted that this solution will ensure the maintenance and sustainable operation of the project’s key infrastructure facilities.
It is also expected that this will create favorable conditions for the completion of the DC transmission line in Afghanistan.
Completion of construction of this transmission line is scheduled for 2027.
Thus, the CASA-1000 project infrastructure will be fully connected to the power grid by 2027.
The report also notes that of the four countries participating in the project—Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Pakistan—construction of the relevant facilities has already been completed.
The construction of the DC transmission line in Afghanistan is expected to be completed by 2027.
